She doesn't have much time. Seventeen-year-old Ree (impressively played by the then unknown Jennifer Lawrence, who became a star thanks to this film) must find her father, dead or alive, or else the family will lose their house, which has been put up as part of his bail bond. Otherwise, she, her younger siblings and their apathetic mother will end up on the streets. But no one in her father's clan, scarred by drugs and violence, seems to know anything about him. Although Ree's search grows increasingly dangerous, she refuses to give up, standing up against everybody alone. This adaptation of a novel was filmed in the mountains of Missouri—an impoverished, neglected region with dilapidated log cabins and crystal meth labs. WINTER’S BONE, interwoven with elements of the thriller, tells the story of a strong, feisty film heroine, while also highlighting the harsh social realities of the American Heartland.
